Ray
played his High School Baseball at Marlboro High School, in Marlboro,
New Jersey. He left the Marlboro baseball program in 1996 as an All Conference
(Shore), All-County (Monmouth), and 1st All-State Selection, as well as
Marlboro's single-season record holder in Batting Average (.547).
Navarrete moved on to play his collegiate ball at Seton
Hall University, part of the Big East Conference, from 1996-2000. There,
Navarrete led the Pirate program to its first 40 Win season and NCAA
regional appearance during the 2000 season. Navarrete left the Seton
Hall as one of the most successful hitters in program history. Navarrete
left as the all-time leader in Doubles (currently second all-time),
and in the top 10 in Games Played, Hits, and Runs Scored.
After completing his tenure at Seton Hall, Navarrete signed professionally
with the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball club as a non-drafted free agent.
Navarrete's best season in the Pirate Organization came in 2002, where
he played for the Lynchburg Hillcats (Class High A) of the Carolina
League. There, Navarrete led the circuit in Hits (169), and second in
Batting Average (.318), and doubles (41). The following Spring Training,
2003, the Pittsburgh Pirates invited Navarrete to partake in Major League
Spring Training during the final 2 weeks of camp. There, Navarrete played
games against teams like the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox,
Cincinnati Reds, and New York Yankees. Navarrete experienced one of
his greatest personal highlights, during the Pirate-Yankee game (Clemens
vs. Benson); Navarrete was put into the game in the 8th inning, and
got an at-bat against Yankee closer, Mariano Rivera.
Navarrete was later traded to the Houston Astros Organization during
spring training of 2005. He was released shortly before the All-Star
break, and finished the season with the Somerset Patriots of the (Ind.)
Atlantic League. There, Navarrete was an integral part of bringing the
Patriot their second championship in franchise history.
Following the 2005 season, Navarrete signed with the New York Mets,
and earned a spot on their Triple-A team out of spring training. Navarrete
spent the 2006 in the Mets organization between Triple-A Norfolk, and
Double-A Binghamton. That winter, Navarrete received the opportunity
to play winter ball in Puerto Rico. During his time in Puerto Rico,
Navarrete played for the Carolina Giants, where he once again brought
home another championship with the likes of some very well known Major
Leaguers, Juan Gonzalez, Rey Ordonez, and Yadier Molina.
Navarrete came back to the states for the 2007 season
as a member of the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. 2007 brought
Navarrete his best season of his professional career, as he was named
a mid-season and post-season All-Star. Navarrete completed the season
by breaking the Atlantic League Record for Doubles, and leading the
circuit in doubles, extra-base hits, and runs scored, while finishing
4th in hits (144). Navarrete also set franchise records for the Long
Island Duck organization for Doubles (42), extra base hits (62), runs
scored (104). After the completion of the 2007 campaign, Navarrete set
off to play winter ball in Mexico.
In all, Navarrete has completed his 8th season of professional baseball.
During his time as professional, Navarrete has played as high as Triple
A (New York Mets), and Major League Spring Training (Pittsburgh Pirates).
Navarrete has also played professional baseball internationally, in
Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Personally, Navarrete is the Co-Founder/Co-Owner of Digmi Clothing Co.,
one of the nations most exciting and promising clothing companies.
